When in 1783 Sevastopol city was founded, there was practically no road
connecting it to Russia. One had to cross Bilbek
valley and Mikenzievy mountains, then reach Sevastopol bay
and get to its southern part (which is the area where the city itself
is now situated).
For years Severnaya side defended Sevastopol from the North side.
During the first defence of Sevastopol during Crimean war 1853 - 1856
the very first on-land fortifications were erected there.
It was the place where defensive installations and military bases were
disposed.
Konstantinovskaya
(Konstantinovsky Ravelin)
and Mikhailovskaya batteries survived both the Crimean
war and World War II. This land remembers battles of two wars, and
Sevastopol citizens honor the people whose lives
were connected with small piece of Sevastopol land.
Almost every steer of Severnaya side is connected with the history of this
place.
Nowadays Northern side a residential area, a lot of people live there and
travel to the central part of Sevastopol by ferry boat daily.
